Department of Geology and Mining

 

The Department of Geology and Mining, Bandipora, operating under the Government of Jammu & Kashmir, oversees mineral exploration, regulated mining, and mineral trade within the district. It strives to ensure scientific and sustainable extraction of resources, curb illegal mining, rationalize mineral rates, and channel welfare initiatives through the District Mineral Foundation Trust (DMFT), thereby promoting both environmental stewardship and community development.

Functions of the Department

The Department of Geology and Mining, Bandipora, regulates mineral exploration, extraction, and trade in the district. It ensures sustainable mining, prevents illegal activities, and fixes mineral rates. The department also implements community welfare projects through the District Mineral Foundation Trust (DMFT).

01. PMKKKY The DMFT Bandipora, constituted under the MMDR Act 2015, is mandated to work for the welfare of communities affected by mining. It channels a share of mining revenues into priority sectors such as health, education, drinking water, livelihood, and environmental restoration, ensuring sustainable development in mining-affected areas of the district.

 

 Communities impacted by mining operations. Mining-affected areas and beneficiaries are identified by the district administration. Eligible proposals from departments or local bodies are reviewed by the DMFT committee, sanctioned, and funded. Projects are then implemented through concerned agencies and regularly monitored for transparency and impact. Applications for DMFT Bandipora may be submitted to the district magistrate office or through the concerned line departments. A written proposal outlining the requirement under priority sectors is reviewed by the DMFT committee for approval and funding.
