DPO POSHAN
Mission Poshan formerly known as Integrated Child Development Scheme (ICDS), is India’s flagship nutrition mission launched by the Prime Minister on March 8, 2018, in Jhunjhunu, Rajasthan. The primary goal of this initiative is to improve the nutritional status of vulnerable groups, including children under six years old, adolescent girls, pregnant women, and lactating mothers.
Key Objectives
Reduce Malnutrition: Targeting a reduction in stunting, under-nutrition, anemia, and low birth weight among children.
Promote Nutrition Awareness: Encouraging healthy eating habits and nutritional awareness.
Holistic Approach: Integrating various schemes and services for comprehensive nutrition support.
Evolution – Mission Poshan 2.0
Mission Poshan 2.0 is an upgraded version aiming for more integrated and efficient nutrition support. It merges several programs, focusing on:
Maternal and Child Nutrition: Emphasizing the first 1,000 days of a child’s life.
Functions of the department:
- Supplementary Nutrition – Provide hot cooked meals and take-home rations for children (6 months–6 years), pregnant women, and lactating mothers through Anganwadi Centres.
- Growth Monitoring – Regular weighing and measurement of children to track growth and identify malnutrition early.
- Health & Nutrition Awareness – Conduct community-based events, Poshan Maah/Poshan Pakhwada, and campaigns for behavior change on diet, hygiene, and breastfeeding.
- Strengthening Anganwadis – Upgrading infrastructure into Saksham Anganwadis, creches & Bal Vidyalyas with better facilities, smart learning tools, and use of technology.
- Capacity Building – Training Anganwadi workers and helpers for effective service delivery.
- Convergence of Schemes – Coordinating with health, sanitation, drinking water, and women development programs to provide holistic support.
- Technology Use – ICT-based monitoring through the Poshan Tracker app for transparency, real-time data, and improved governance.
- Focus on Vulnerable Groups – Special attention to children with severe acute malnutrition (SAM), Moderately acute malnutrition (MAM), Anemia etc.
Exhibitions
Exhibitions under Mission POSHAN are usually organized during Poshan Maah (September) and Poshan Pakhwada (March) as part of Jan Andolan (people’s movement) activities. Their purpose is to create awareness, promote healthy practices, and showcase community participation in nutrition.
Here are the types of exhibitions usually held:
- Nutri-Garden Exhibitions: Display of locally available fruits, vegetables, and traditional food crops to encourage kitchen gardens.
- Low-Cost Nutritious Food Stalls: Demonstration of recipes using millets, pulses, and seasonal foods for children and mothers.
- Health & Nutrition Models: Charts, posters, and models showing growth monitoring, importance of breastfeeding, handwashing, and hygiene.
- Traditional Food Exhibitions: Showcasing regional nutritious dishes to promote use of local ingredients.
- Anganwadi Display Corners – Exhibition of supplementary nutrition items, take-home rations, and growth monitoring tools.
- Community Participation Exhibits: Community Based Events by involving various stakeholders of the community including senior citizens, mothers, PRIs, for mass mobilization.
- Digital & Thematic Exhibitions – Use of digital screens, videos, and thematic stalls (like anemia prevention, SAM management, adolescent health).
The main objective of these exhibitions is to spread awareness about good nutrition practices, highlight government initiatives, and motivate communities to adopt healthy food and lifestyle habits.

Nearest Angawadi Centre | All the categories of eligible beneficiaries typically receive Supplementary Nutrition for 300 days a year. As on date 32985 are enrolled and receiving SNP through 829 AWCs of District Bandipora. |
02 | Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandhana Yojna (PMMVY) | Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY) 2.0 is part of the Mission Shakti initiative, launched in 2022 by the Ministry of Women & Child Development to strengthen support for pregnant and lactating women.
Coverage:
Extended to cover both first and second live births (earlier only for the first).
For the second child, the benefit is available only if the child is a girl. Benefits: For 1st Child a Cash incentive of ₹5,000 is being given directly to the beneficiary through DBT.
For 2nd (Girl Child only) child Cash incentive of ₹6,000 is being given directly to the beneficiary through DBT. |
1. All pregnant women and lactating mothers, except:
Those in regular employment with the Central/State Government or Public Sector Undertakings.
2. Number of births covered:
First live birth → All women are eligible.
Second live birth → Only if the child is a girl.
3. Conditions:
Woman must be 18 years of age or above at the time of the first pregnancy.
Must be registered at an Anganwadi Centre (AWC) or an approved health facility.
Must provide Aadhaar and bank account details for Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT).
Registration should be done within the prescribed time limits for each installment.

1. Registration of Pregnancy
Visit the nearest Anganwadi Centre (AWC) or Approved Health Facility (PHC/CHC/Govt. hospital).
Register pregnancy and submit the prescribed PMMVY application form with the local AWW.
Provide Aadhaar card, bank account details, MCP (Mother and Child Protection) card, and identity proof. 2. Verification & Approval
All documents are checked by the local Anganwadi Worker / Health Worker.
Data is uploaded on the PMMVY software portal.
Payments are released electronically to the beneficiary’s bank account.
