Election

The District Election Office is responsible for administering elections to the Lok Sabha, Legislative Assembly as well as elections to the Local Bodies. The Sub-Divisional Magistrate Sumbal,  Assistant Commissioner Revenue, Bandipora and Sub-Divisional Magistrate Gurezare theElectoral Registration Officers for Assembly Constituency 14-Sumbal, 15- Bandipora and 16-Gurez respectively whereas, Tehsildars have been appointed as Assistant Electoral Registration Officers of their respective jurisdictions to ensure preparation of free, fair and healthy Elector Roll. Voters’ registration as a Voter is being accepted through online mode via ERONET Portal, which besidesa single unified database, provides (i) support for 14 languages &11 scripts (ii) ability to track the progress of each Form (iii) reporting system to monitor the performance of electoral officials (iv) generation of PSE (photo similar entries)& DSE (demographic similar entries) report to refine the electoral roll.

Key Functions

  • Issuance of Photo-identity cards to voters.
  • Corrections pertaining to Identity cards.
  • Making of duplicate photo I.D cards.
  • Regular updation of the Electoral roll by way of deletion, additions and transposition of electors for preparation of the free, fair and healthy elector roll.
  • Responsible for up-keeping and maintenance of Ballot Boxes, Electronic voting machines, Steel trunks, previous election related record/electoral rolls.
  • Stationary depot where stationary pertaining to the elections is printed.

To efficiently co-ordinate and supervise all works in the district in connection with the conduct of elections to Parliament, Legislative Assembly as well as to the local bodies.

01 To register as a new Voter Any person can apply for his/her registration as a new Voter, if he/she:-

  • is a Citizen of India
  • has attained the age of 18 years on the qualifying date i.e. 1 Jan, 1 April, 1 July and 1 Oct of the year of revision of electoral roll.
  • is ordinarily resident of the part/polling area of the constituency where he/she want to be enrolled.
  • is not of unsound mind, and
  • is not disqualified to be enrolled as an elector.
Election commission of India offers online voter registration for Indian citizens who have attained the age of 18 on the qualifying date (1 Jan, 1 April, 1 July and 1 Oct of the year of revision of electoral roll). Citizen, can apply for registration as a new Voter, to the concerned Electoral Registration Officer by filling Form 6 online at National Voters’ Service Portal (Link to online form)

02 Inclusion of Overseas Electors in Electoral roll. Every Indian Citizen residing abroad, who has not acquired the citizenship of any other country, and has attained the age of 18 years on the qualifying date, may apply for his/her registration in the electoral roll of the constituency relating to his/her place of residence in India mentioned in the passport. The Applicant can submit his/her application Form 6A to the Electoral Registration officer of the constituency under which the applicants Ordinary place of residence, as mentioned in the valid passport falls, online at National Voters’ Service Portal

03 Objections against inclusion/deletion of Names in Electoral Roll Any person who is already registered as a Voter in that very Electoral roll can:-

  • get his/her own name deleted from the electoral roll
  • filean objection regarding the name of any prospective elector to be included in the electoral roll.
Any registered voter of an electoral roll may file Objections against inclusion/deletion of names in that very particular Electoral Roll, tothe concerned Electoral Registration Officer by filling  Form 7 online at National Voters’ Service Portal

04 Replacement of EPIC/Marking of PwD/correction of entries/shifting of residence Any person who is already registered as a Voter in that very Electoral roll can apply for:-

  • replacement of his/her EPIC
  • marking him/her as a PwD Voter in the Electoral roll.
  • Correction of entries in electoral roll.
  • Shifting of his residence
Any voter registered as voter in an electoral roll may, for the replacement of his/her EPIC/ Marking of PwD/correction of entries, apply to the concerned Electoral Registration Officer by filling Form 8 online at National Voters’ Service Portal(Link to online form) .

In case of shifting of residence, the applicant has to apply before the ERO of the constituency in which the new address of the elector is located and is presently residing there.
