The Department of Legal Metrology is aregulatory body responsible for applying legal requirements to measurements and measuring instruments to ensure public confidence in their accuracy and security. It plays a vital role in protecting consumers, promoting fair trade practices and maintaining trust in the marketplace. It enforces the Legal Metrology Act to safeguard consumers from fraudulent practices by ensuring uniformity and accuracy in weights, measures, and weighing/measuring instruments, and by controlling the trade of pre-packaged commodities.
