PHE (Hyd) Division Bandipore

The Public Health Engineering (PHE) Department, now functioning under the ambit of Jal Shakti Department, J&K, is entrusted with the responsibility of planning, execution, operation, and maintenance of drinking water supply schemes across the Union Territory. The department is mandated to ensure safe, adequate, and sustainable drinking water supply to both urban and rural habitations.

At the district level, the department operates through its Divisions and Sub Divisions, which function as the primary execution and field-level units to maintain the essential services of drinking water supply schemes.

Jal Shakti PHE Hydraulic Division Bandipore was established in the year 2009 with the Jurisdiction starting from Ajas to Kehnoosa in respect of PHE sector and from Ajas to Malangam in respect of I&FC sector. Jal Shakti PHE Hydraulic Division Bandipore has been serving with the moto of providing clean drinking water to the inhabitants (under PHE sector), irrigation facilities to the command area (under Irrigation sector) and executing different flood mitigation /protection works and river training works within the Jurisdiction. JSD PHE Hydraulic Division Bandipore has at present coverage status of 82.59% and Under Jal Jeevan Mission will achieve 100% FHTC Coverage shortly

03 No sub-divisions namely PHE Sub Division Bandipore, Irrigation Sub-Division Bandipore and Flood Control Sub-Division Bandipore falls administratively under this division and geographically under District Bandipora.

The schemes in this Division are Lift Schemes / Gravity Schemes supplemented by Service Reservoirs, filtration plants, and distribution networks.

Infrastructure Under O&M:

  1. 66 No Rural water supply schemes for 41Villages, 01 No Urban Water Supply Schemefeeding Bandipore Town
  2. Service Reservoirs, Filtration Plants, and Distribution Networks.
  • Transmission mains ranging from small-diameter GI pipes to large-diameter DI mains.

Mains Functions:

  1. Operation and maintenance of existing water supply schemes.
  2. Regulation of equitable distribution of potable water.
  3. To ensure safe and hygienic drinking water to the consumers, regular quality control tests are being carried out on different Water Supply Schemes under the jurisdiction of PHE (Hyd) Division Bandipore. These tests are conducted through the District Water Testing Laboratory as well as Sub-Divisional Water Quality Testing Laboratory as per prescribed standards and parameters. The practice not only ensures compliance with water safety norms but also helps in timely detection of any deviation in quality, thereby enabling corrective measures for maintaining proper quality of the water supply.
  4. Redressal of public grievances related to water supply.
  5. Coordination with allied departments (R&B, RDD, ULBs, etc.) for smooth execution of works.

 

Recent Initiatives: Under Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM)& NABARD, several augmentation and new schemes are being executed in the jurisdiction of this division to ensure Har Ghar Jal (functional household tap connection). During public outreach programmes or Back to Village (B2V) or Block Divas events, the PHE Department sets up exhibition stalls to display its ongoing and completed schemes, FTK Demonstrations. FTK Demonstrations on Panchayat Levels/School Levels. Awareness programs regarding Importance of Drinking Water and its Conservations.
