R&B DIVIDION GUREZ
The Public Works Department, Roads & Buildings (R&B) Division Gurez functions under the administrative control of the Government of Jammu and Kashmir and operates as the frontline executing agency of the Government of Jammu and Kashmir in the Gurez Valley. The Division is entrusted with the responsibility of developing, maintaining, and managing public infrastructure in this remote and strategically important border region.
Given the unique geographical and climatic challenges of Gurez, the Division plays a crucial role in ensuring road connectivity, construction of public buildings and creation of durable assets for the local population. It serves as the primary engineering arm of the Government in the Gurez Sub-Division, thereby facilitating socio-economic development and improving accessibility to essential services
Functions of the Department
The main functions of PWD (R&B) Division Gurez include:
- Road Infrastructure Development – Construction, upgradation, widening, and maintenance of rural and inter-village roadsand bridges to ensure connectivity of Gurez.
- Government Buildings – Construction, renovation, and upkeep of government buildings such as educational institutions, health centres, offices and other public service facilities.
- Project Preparation & Technical Scrutiny – Preparation of Detailed Project Reports (DPRs), designs, and estimates, besides providing technical scrutiny and consultancy services for civil works.
- Execution & Supervision – Implementation of works through tendering, contract management, and technical supervision in accordance with approved standards and specifications.
- Implementation of Schemes – Execution of works funded under UT Capex, NABARD, Centrally Sponsored Schemes and other programmes meant for infrastructure development in Gurez.
- Maintenance & Repairs – Regular upkeep of existing roads and buildings, including snow clearance and restoration works to maintain serviceability during harsh winters.
Quality Control & Transparency – Ensuring strict adherence to quality standards, cost efficiency, and transparency in the execution of public works.
